Florence Restaurants

In a privacy of family, in a restaurant or a brassiere, Italians always enjoy the delight of dining, savouring, laughing and talking – often for many hours. Florence offers all kinds of dining opportunities from cosy, familial ambience to a pure luxury. Here is a list of the most renowned ventures.

Restaurants

La Capannina di Sante

This restaurant is famous for its both traditional and innovative fish recipes. It’s located over the river Arno in a wooden chalet. You have a great choice of oysters, snails and fish. It’s open daily but Saturday and the first half of August.

Le Cave di Maiano

This old inn hidden behind old quarries is accessible by car only. It takes around 15 minutes from the city centre. In summer we can sit under elms and savour traditional delicacies of Tuscan cuisine. It’s closed on Thursday, in Sunday evening and in August. It’s necessary to make an appointment in advance.

Le Lance

It’s an ideal place for a lunch. We sit in modern, cool rooms or on a big, garden terrace with a beautiful view of Florence. By a piano music we can percept a romantic atmosphere. It’s closed on Monday, in Tuesday morning and in January.

Coco Lezzone

This restaurant probably represents the typical Florentine atmosphere the most accurately and aptly. Mostly the traditional, Italian food is served here, but if you want to taste some exotic or sea food repasts you will definitely have an opportunity. It’s closed on Sunday, on Saturday during the summer time and in Tuesday evening.

Cafés

The traditional Florentine cafés are found around Piazza della Republica. In summer we can sit for a while under linen shelters, when the weather goes wrong, the cafés move into the inner spaces, equipped in a Viennese style. The Florentine cafés are usually open at least until midnight and that’s the reason why theatre and cinemagoers often drop by here. In the afternoon we go to taste a pastry here, made in local pasticceries. We can also find the small, storied chocolate factory “Rivoire” and taste some specimen. Here is the list of chosen venues in Florence.

Giacosa

A favourite place mostly occupied by local “golden youth” as well as officers of the adjacent banks who go to have a lunch here. It’s open daily but Saturday from 8am to 9pm.

Gilli

The tables both outside on the square and inside, unchanged since 1910 are often occupied. Short waiting pays off though. As recompense we’ll taste delicious dolci! It’s open daily but Tuesday from 8am to midnight.

Giubbe Rosse

Giubbe Rosse, a nostalgic café where many men of letters and painters met everyday, is a real jewel among Florentine cafés. Its name comes from the clothes that local waiters wear – red vests which mean Giubbe Rosse in Italian. Coffee, hot chocolate, custards, desserts, cakes as well as full menus – everything is possible to have here. Don’t get surprised by higher prices. Open daily but Thursday from 7:30am to 1:30pm.
